Please see the following Greater Victoria School District media release, which will affect some of our Monterey families.
These changes mean that, beginning in the 2018-19 school year, a student attending a particular elementary or middle school does NOT automatically put him/her on the pathway to a particular middle school. In our case, for example, attending English Track at Margaret Jenkins or Willows elementary in grade 5 does not automatically mean a student can come to Monterey for middle school; similarly, attending Monterey in grade 8 does not automatically mean a student can attend Oak Bay High; rather, enrollment priorities at your subsequent school will be based on such factors as home address and/or an older sibling already attending (and returning to) that school.
While students living outside of a catchment area may apply to transfer to another school, if there is limited space, acceptance will be granted on the basis of the prioritized list below.
I hope this information is helpful as your family plans ahead for your child(ren)’s K to 12 education.
